Weight Management Medication Update – June 2025

The NHS has recently launched a new initiative offering a medication called tirzepatide (Mounjaro) for managing obesity in adults who meet very specific medical criteria including

• a Body Mass Index (BMI) of 40 or above and
• four out of five of the following conditions: type 2 diabetes, high blood pressure, heart and vascular disease, high cholesterol and obstructive sleep apnoea

After careful consideration, Nettlebed Surgery has chosen not to participate in this particular locally commissioned service. This decision reflects the limited scope of the programme and the very small number of patients who would be eligible under national guidelines.
